Voltage Spike

The RTCA DO-160 voltage spike test evaluates a piece of equipment’s resilience against voltage spike effects. These spikes can enter the equipment through its power lines, whether the system uses AC or DC power. Voltage spikes can cause various adverse effects on equipment, with different levels of severity. One key purpose of RTCA DO-160G testing is to identify if the equipment risks lasting damage under these conditions. In extreme cases, voltage spikes may indeed lead to permanent equipment failure. Apart from the entire system failing, it is also common for individual components to sustain damage. Additionally, voltage spikes can sometimes lead to the breakdown of insulation.
